The media plays a vital role in shaping public opinion, promoting inclusivity, and holding institutions accountable. In Somalia, particularly in regions like Jowhar, the voices of minority and marginalized groups—such as the Somali Bantu, women, and persons with disabilities—are often underrepresented or misrepresented in mainstream media. This lack of fair coverage contributes to ongoing discrimination, social exclusion, and limited participation in public life.
To address these challenges, of this workshop on “The Role of the Media in Addressing Discrimination Against Minority and Marginalized Groups” aims to build the capacity of journalists, media practitioners, and communication officers in Jowhar Town.
The training will strengthen participants’ understanding of human rights–based reporting, ethical journalism, and inclusive storytelling that promotes equality and social cohesion.
